A bike ride with an everyday San Francisco Cyclist and ask the question, why do you bike? First off. Meet Franz.
I ride to work, I ride basically everywhere I’m going. You know, if I go to the store, or anything like that, it’s always on a bike. I’ll just put stuff in a bag.
I used to have a car. I just ended up moving it across the street every couple days and accumulating parking tickets.
I just like riding. I always did when I was a kid. We’d ride BMX, go off ramps, everything.
I never was the kind of person to exercise for the point of exercising, but I feel better and stay in better shape from riding my bike everywhere.
I just like bikes. My job is working on bikes. I appreciate the aesthetics of a bike. I like building bikes for my friends and for myself.
I’m not going to say that there should be no cars or all bikes lanes or something like that, but a lot of commuting can be done on bicycle or public transportation and that’s just good all around. And it’s fun, you know.
We’ll go down to the ocean. Across the bridge or down the coast, or something like that. Or just cruise around the city. There’s a sense of freedom that comes with it. There are a lot of fun places to ride. There is a type of camaraderie that comes from doing an activity with other people.

franz has a way of stating the great things about biking in a really unpretentious way, and you, you have a gift for shooting him. please keep posting

Nice photo essay. I do pullups in Chrissy Field near Fort Mason, and I love seeing a few white t-shirts in with the spandex as bike people zoom by on weekends.
